India has rejected Canada s portrayal of the implementation of parity of diplomats as a violation of international norms. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the higher number of Canadian diplomats in India and their interference in internal affairs warrant a mutual diplomatic presence. India clarified that the actions are consistent with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Canada has withdrawn 41 diplomats and temporarily suspended visa and consular services in certain Indian cities. India had previously suspended visa processing in Canada. The reduced staffing levels are expected to affect processing time for Indian citizens.
The IRCC, which is used by banks to calculate interest rates for new loans taken out starting with the spring of 2019, stays below 6% until the end of 2023, at 5.96%, as announced by the country's central bank for the fourth quarter of 2023 (computed based on data from the second quarter of 2023), comparable with the IRCC value of 5.94% for the third quarter of 2023.
