A winter storm warning from the weather service at Chicago remains in effect through 7 p.m. EST Sunday for these Indiana counties: Benton, Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter. Additional snow accumulation of 1-3 inches are expected along with winds gusting to 30 mph. Total snow accumulations from the storm are expected to total 7-12 inches.
2 p.m. update
Storm warnings and advisories for central Indiana have been lifted early. Only five counties in northwest Indiana remained under a winter storm warning.
9:03 a.m. update
Tipton County Sheriff’s Department dispatch center says U.S. 31 remains open after a crash involving a single vehicle that rolled over multiple times near the County Road 500 North intersection. No additional information was immediately available about the crash.
The Kokomo Police Department has hired three more officers.
In a press release Monday, the department said it has hired Samantha Raber, Travis Cooper and Issa Oliver. All three are lateral transfers, meaning they previously worked at other nearby police or sheriffâs departments.
All three will be sworn in at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The ceremony will be private due to the COVID-19 pandemic but can later be viewed at either KGOV2.com or the Kokomo Police Department Facebook page.
Raber, a Linton native, previously worked at the Peru Police Department since 2011. Cooper, born in Indianapolis, graduated from Tri-Central High School in 2006 and received a bachelorâs degree in criminal justice from Indiana University of Kokomo in 2011. He previously worked at Windfall Police Department and has spent the last five years as a deputy sheriff in the Tipton County Sheriffâs Department.
