questions today about safety. jay gray has a closer look. reporter: as maintenance teams and federal investigators continue to cut through possible issues with southwest airlines fleet of 737 300s, the carrier was forced to cancel about 70 flights today. southwest grounded 79 planes for emergency inspections and canceled hundreds of flights over the weekend after this five-foot hole ripped through the feuselage of the jet last friday, depressurizing a cabin 18 minutes before the flight from phoenix to sacramento. a preliminary on-site examination reveals pre-existing fatigue along the entire fracture surface. reporter: maintenance records in 2010 it crews found two instances of cracking in the aircraft s frame and len more intanses of cracks designed to hold the plane s kin in place. they found small sub-surface cracks in three more southwest jets similar to those that may have cause the tear on friday, but faa officials stress that is not unusual for a fleet that s 10
