Can Do Season Wrap-Up: Lessons The Pandemic Taught Us

Can Do Season Wrap-Up: Lessons The Pandemic Taught Us Can Do s fourth season unfolded in real time as business owners grappled with the impacts of the pandemic on their personal and professional lives. Some looked to innovate while others doubled down on what had made them successful in the first place. Whichever strategy they used, the wild swings and challenges of the past year forced every entrepreneur to reevaluate how they do business. In this episode, we’ll reflect on insights from Season Four s Can Do guests, reviewing their advice and examining how it might fit a post-pandemic future.  Joining Arnie Sherman is one of the program s favorite contributors, Michelle Huie, founder and CEO of VIM & VIGR and ShopDot, and a guest on our first show of the season (aptly titled “How Businesses Can Adapt to Unpredictable Times ). Michelle helps us evaluate what our guests had to say, and gives her professional opinion on what business owners can learn from this past year.

Gariepy guest column: Loss of his hand has never held back Tim Pollard

Carole Gariepy Special for The Gardner News We all feel sorry for ourselves sometimes, and especially this past year with all the restrictions, limitations, uncertainties and changes that have occurred. COVID has affected all of us. We don’t just need shots of the vaccine, we need shots of inspiration, and I would like to share the one I recently got when visiting in New Braintree with my friend’s grandson, Tim Pollard. The sparkle in Tim’s eyes and the friendly spontaneous outreach of his left hand to greet me drew me to him immediately. He has no right hand to shake with, and the quick extension of his left somehow prompted an automatic response for me to extend my left also. His self-confidence and obvious lack of embarrassment touched me. I was emotionally moved and impressed and wanted to hear his story, a story of strength and courage he willingly shared.

Nio: seven reasons why it's China's answer to Tesla

► One of China s leading EV specialists ► New tech, new battery thinking  Chinese electric car scale-up Nio has confirmed it will sell cars in Norway, suggesting a full European launch programme is edging closer. The brand is considered to be one of the most viable electric vehicle (EV) pioneers and some suggest it could even threaten Tesla s dominance one day. Nio revealed it would launch the ES8 SUV and ET7 saloon in Norway, with first deliveries starting in September 2021. But what s most interesting is the launch of the company s innovative battery-swap stations, which can robotically remove and replace batteries in a drive-through scenario, neatly bypassing the range anxiety and charging worries that blight so many EVs. It is planning battery-swap facilities in five Norwegian cities within 12 months.

Toyota bZ4X electric SUV concept: joint project with Subaru points to e-future

► Shown at 2021 Shanghai auto show  ► bZ stands for Beyond Zero emissions  The new Toyota bZ4X Concept car has been shown at the Shanghai auto show, pointing the way to a new era of electric vehicles from the world s biggest car maker. It is far from a one-off and ushers in what Toyota calls a new family of battery electric vehicles. The badge stands for Beyond Zero , as Toyota pens a new chapter of zero-emissions electric vehicles to sell alongside its hybrids, petrol and indeed hydrogen powertrains. The bZ4X was co-developed with Subaru, showing that it s not just niche sports cars where the two Japanese car makers can collaborate. Tellingly, Toyota says confirmation of a production version is due in 2022. We d say this concept car looks pretty much showroom-ready.
