► bZ stands for 'Beyond Zero' emissions
The new Toyota bZ4X Concept car has been shown at the Shanghai auto show, pointing the way to a new era of electric vehicles from the world's biggest car maker. It is far from a one-off and ushers in what Toyota calls 'a new family of battery electric vehicles.'
The badge stands for 'Beyond Zero', as Toyota pens a new chapter of zero-emissions electric vehicles to sell alongside its hybrids, petrol and indeed hydrogen powertrains.
The bZ4X was co-developed with Subaru, showing that it's not just niche sports cars where the two Japanese car makers can collaborate. Tellingly, Toyota says confirmation of a production version is due in 2022. We'd say this concept car looks pretty much showroom-ready...
