Ad fraud and brand risk up in H2 2020, says IAS
April 21, 2021 10:49
Integral Ad Science (IAS) has disclosed new data showing that Australia witnessed an increase in ad fraud on desktop video, reporting an optimised against-ad-fraud rate of 1.6% for H2 2020, twice the average rate a year earlier. The worldwide optimised desktop video ad fraud rate was 0.8% for the same period.
According to Jessica Miles, country manager ANZ at Integral Ad Science, this rate of 1.6% is still relatively small, especially when compared to the worldwide non-optimised rate of 5.6%, “which is why we do not advocate alarm over the results despite the increase”.

News Corp has been ordered to pay $110,000 to Sydney criminal lawyer Christopher Murphy for statements made by journalist Annette Sharp in The Daily Telegraph.
Federal Court Judge, Justice J Lee concluded in his ruling that “the appropriate amount for non-economic loss comprising general damages is an award of $110,000”.
The print article in question was titled ‘Portrait of the artist as an estranged wife’ published in October 2020 and as ‘Celebrity lawyer Chris Murphy splits with wife of 25 years’ online.
Murphy is a well regarded criminal defence solicitor who has acted for many high profile clients. According to the court documents, this reputation allowed him to become the “rainmaker” for his firm, with clients engaging his firm because of his reputation.

Community organisation Our Watch has released a new series of ads to encourage men to ‘do something’ when they witness sexist behaviour as part of its national Doing Nothing Does Harm campaign.
Our Watch was created to drive nationwide change in the culture, behaviours and attitudes that lead to violence against women and children.
The new work comes from Thinkerbell and is based on research that 75% of Australians want practical advice on how to respond to casual sexism, without being perceived as a ‘party pooper’ and that only 14% of Australians felt confident in calling out disrespect towards women.
ACM to resume print publications in regional NSW, QLD & SA
April 15, 2021 9:06
Regional publisher Australian Community Media (ACM) is set to resume publishing a number of local newspapers from next week, a year after the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of printing.
ACM chief marketing officer Paul Tyrrell confirmed to Mumbrella that titles would resume printing. ACM ceased print operations at three of its press facilities last year, and suspended a number of non-daily newspapers. The media outlet said at the time the decision involves a number of redundancies. ACM would not disclose how many.
ACM has announced that it will also close a number of websites where advertising support has not recovered since print publishing had to be suspended. This includes the Wingham Chronicle and the Bellingen Courier-Sun in NSW.
