people are going to be reduced to about $6 a person a day for food. there is no way that is sufficient. and yet, as shocking as that is, as terrible as this is, there are some people in congress who are calling for further cuts. you know, you really have to wonder what the reality is for those people. the reality for most americans is that they see the affordability issue. they see it. it s not just snap recipient, but it shows up in polling. people are concerned about people having access to food. yet, sometimes, policy makers make decisions that are not grounded. they are not grounded in the urban institute research. they are not grounded in the reality that tianna can tell you about, and i don t know what they think people can do on an average of $6 a person a day for food. tianna, fortunately, i ve got less than a minute. this is an important question i want you to answer. you ve been such a fierce advocate for years for those struggling with food insecurity and poverty.
a huge strain on our food pantries, our schools, it s going to be a trickle down effect for everyone. ellen, this impact. it s going to affect more than 40 million people across 32 states and create additional obstacles for some of our most vulnerable, especially the elderly and disabled communities, like tianna just mentioned. i want to point out this really important statistic. older americans relying on social security are going to be impacted some of the most. they will see the steepest decrease from $281 in monthly benefits to only $23. eleanor, we re going to protect our most vulnerable at this point? well, i will tell you, tianna talked about the decision that was made to make this cut. it is coming very quickly. it s a very precipitous cut, and it s very, very steep. it s going to hit everybody in some way. you are right to point out that for some people, they will go from $281 in snap in february to $23 in march. for the month, on average,
