Good news coming from the Governor’s office – trout season is open immediately following an executive order on Mar. 4. The state will continue to stock fish from now until mid-May, keeping fishermen and women busy until the water temps increase, which will create more opportunities. There are specific guidelines applying to each location; read more about the new trout rules and regulations here. Connecticut Fishing Report Evan, at Black Hall Outfitters in Old Lyme, says fishing is picking up, coinciding with the warmer temps. The most popular option has been trout, including large 16-inch brown trout at Trout Management Areas and Trout Management Lakes. Connecticut Fishing Report – February 25, 2021

Connecticut Fishing Report – February 25, 2021 Ice fishing continues to hold steady despite mild temperatures. Connecticut Fishing Report Rich, at Fisherman’s World in Norwalk, says the local tidal rivers have open water because of the recent trend in milder temperatures. March will be more consistent for holdover striper fishing in terms of quantity and quality. Albie Snax, Lunker City Slug-Gos and Fin-S Fish are the best bet for the time being. As the water temperatures start to climb in the upcoming weeks, paddle tails and swim shads will be a good choice for holdover bass. Rich says ice fishing is no longer an option near the shoreline in western Connecticut. He recommended heading to the northern part of the state. “Squantz Pond is a good body of water with big trout and big walleye.”

Rhode Island Fishing Report – February 25, 2021

Rhode Island Fishing Report – February 25, 2021 The ponds and lakes north and west of Providence are the best bet for the weekend. Rhode Island Fishing Report Dave at Ocean State Tackle in Providence, says there is 6 to 8 inches of ice north and west of Providence. Rhode Island DEM recommends a minimum of 6-inches. Dave highlighted a group of friends who went ice fishing recently, connecting with some large fish. Michael Diniz picked up a 5.9-pound largemouth bass, and his friend Sackona Ung, reeled in a 4.5-pound pickerel through the ice. Trout season closes Sunday and will reopen on Apr. 10. If you’re in need of bait, gear, and tackle, call Dave at 401-749-3474.

Connecticut Fishing Report – January 21, 2021

Connecticut Fishing Report – January 21, 2021 The local rivers in Connecticut continue to provide steady winter striper and trout action. Evan, at Black Hall Outfitters in Old Lyme, says the fishing in Connecticut remains consistent across the board. Freshwater fishing in the northern part of the state is dependent on ice. Evan says live bait and jigs are working well for trout and bass. Where there is open water, blade baits and small swimbaits are good choices. The temperatures for much of the upcoming week will be below freezing and much of the water will shift to ice. On the saltwater side of things, the Housatonic River continues to fish well for anglers using Lunker City Slug-Gos and fluke style soft plastics on 3/8-ounce jigheads. Nighttime is producing larger fish, but there are anglers who are doing well during the day too. Trout fishing in the rivers isn’t too bad either – the Farmington is consistently delivering rainbows and browns. Matt Stone of Black Hall Outf
