Multiple reports Saturday indicated that Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith passed away. According to reports, Dreith had been at his cabin Saturday. Dreith had also served as past President of Frontier Community College, and manager of WFIW/WOKZ Radio. Memorial Day Services will be held in Fairfield and Wayne City on Monday. Fairfield's service will be held in the Veterans Section in Maple Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. Dave Land will emcee, and Robert Taylor will be the featured speaker. Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith says a report at Tuesday's City Council meeting about Fairfield Police response time to Fairfield Community High School was inaccurate. On May 11th, FCHS went on soft-lockdown due to threat made on social media. Reports at the council meeting indicated FPD took 15 minutes to respond to an emergency call from the school, but police logs indicate officers were on scene in just over two minutes and cleared any alarms with eight minutes. The Wayne City School Board met this week. Members confirmed they will not qualify for a free lunch program next year, and the policy committee said it was working on the final exam schedule and rules to prepare students for the college experience while following new state rules on attendance. Members heard the Scholarship Foundation Dinner raised over $16,000 for scholarships this year; at the time of the meeting, the class of 30 seniors had won more than $390,000 in scholarships, with more coming in.
