Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith says a report at Tuesday's City Council meeting about Fairfield Police response time to Fairfield Community High School was inaccurate. On May 11th, FCHS went on soft-lockdown due to threat made on social media. Reports at the council meeting indicated FPD took 15 minutes to respond to an emergency call from the school, but police logs indicate officers were on scene in just over two minutes and cleared any alarms with eight minutes. The Wayne City School Board met this week. Members confirmed they will not qualify for a free lunch program next year, and the policy committee said it was working on the final exam schedule and rules to prepare students for the college experience while following new state rules on attendance. Members heard the Scholarship Foundation Dinner raised over $16,000 for scholarships this year; at the time of the meeting, the class of 30 seniors had won more than $390,000 in scholarships, with more coming in. Memorial Day services have been set in Fairfield at the Veterans Section in Maple Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday. Dave Land will emcee, and Robert Taylor will be the featured speaker. Taylor attended grade school in Mt. Erie and high school in Cisne, and he has been a pastor at the Mt. Erie Church of the Nazarene for the past seven years. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will pass out pamphlets and recite the pledge of allegiance, Gary Cline and his daughter will offer a prayer and sing the National Anthem, and Chris Draper will announce the veterans buried there last year. The Fairfield VFW and American Legion will also be on hand. The IDPH reported three new cases of COVID-19 in Wayne, Richland, and Clay counties yesterday. Marion County added 13 cases, Jefferson County added four, White and Lawrence counties added two, and Edwards and Wabash counties added one. Hamilton County held steady on the state website. As a state, Illinois announced 6,406 new cases and eight additional deaths. River stages as of early this morning: the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 19.70 feet, above the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.66 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 16.90 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 2.60 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 13.35 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 11.73 feet. Today's crude oil price is $103.25, up $0.50 from yesterday. The July crude oil price is $111.06, up $0.20 from yesterday morning.
