It is that simple, we cannot nominate someone and think the job is over because we love our nominee. We have got to nominate someone who can actually beat Hillary Clinton and be the next president of the United States. [applause]. You know, i dont think think theres a person in this room who doesnt under stand met romney what a benefit far better president than barack obama. No question about it. But he did not win. He didnt win. So, we have have to win the next race. The second thing is, we have to elect someone who is not just going to talk about all of the things are going to do but actually go out there and get it done. Do the job. Two of our leading candidates today never held public office. Part of the reason is republicans, americans are fed up with politicians. Im going to do this, im going to do that, but nothing seems to change. Im sure its hard to change things in washington, we need to elect someone who is not going to just talk about what theyre going to do when they have

Were interested in having the chairman address that issue also. These are some of the major issues we will discuss, and i certainly look forward to hearing chair yellens thoughts on this. There is also growing uncertainty that we should add to the occasion. Too many mornings we hear breaking news or pick up the newspaper and find headlines we dont want to read. That appears to be a spreading cancer not only in the United States but also throughout the world. And so the uncertainty that that levels and the impact that it has on economic policies is perhaps another issue that we ought to be discussing. This morning, unfortunately, the house of representatives has a series of votes coming up shortly, so there may be some in and out of members having to deal with that as were trying to wrap up our session. Im going to try i will ask our members to try to keep their remarks and questions to five minutes. If we need a second round, we will try to accommodate that and also try to accommodate

National security. Thank you. Mr. Mccarthy chairman of foreign affairs, ed royce. Mr. Royce thank you. Our Main Objective here, obviously, is to keep the American People safe. And the challenge that we have and i recently had an opportunity to speak to a number of authorities in europe about this problem. The challenge we have is that over 5,000 foreign fighters with passports have traveled to syria but then traveled back into europe. And so the question for the european government, theyre frankly in a conundrum here because they dont have the personnel to be able to monitor and follow all of those suspected of terrorism and many of those whove traveled to syria and traveled back. So the point of this legislation is to make certain we dont end up fast tracking the ability of people who have that european passport to come in the United States, to fly into new york or some other capital or some other major American City and carry out the same types of attacks here that theyre planning ri

Minutes. If we need a second round, we will try to accommodate that and also try to accommodate those that have had to run out for votes and will come back. Chair yellen, all of us sitting up here today would love to wake up to headlines in the wall street journal, headlines in the new york times, pictures on the front page of financial times. I have all these things that highlight you this morning as person of the day. I dont expect you have that same enthusiasm waking up every morning, but were certainly pleased to have you here today. I would like to turn to congresswoman maloney, our Ranking Member, and mr. Teaberry and ask him to take a moment to speak to us as the new congressman. Thank you, ms. Yellen. Senator schumer i dont see that they have reporter c. R. s. Senator schumer well, look, the bottom line here is, the n. R. A. Is a powerful opponent. The gun lobby is a powerful all opponent and the best weapon we have on our side is the outrage from the American People. It is growing. If we keep at it. We will win. We dont control the house. We dont control the senate, but we have the people of america on our side and if we continue to have votes and force people to vote, we will win. Let me tell you something today. There are a good number, not all, but a good number of our republican colleagues dreading these two votes. Next.
