everything else i m going to leave here with all my friends. i don t know what to say. i m just happy for her. she s going home. she deserves it. this whole quad stuck by me when i lost my mom. it was like a family in here. although jessica s sentence was relatively short, she believes the experience has been life-changing. when i got here i was still nothing but a kid myself. i grew up here in prison. i hadn t went through school. i read third grade level. it s took me eight months to get my ged. normally it takes somebody a month. but i got it. it s good knowing it s going to be the last time i m going to be locked up. but it s sad knowing i was ever in it. like jessica, some of the women at this north carolina prison feel a sense of shame and regret for the crimes they committed and the time they ve had to serve. i don t know.
