LAS CRUCES - A man charged with first-degree murder will be held in prison without bond after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police accused Joel Arciniega-Saenz, 25, of killing and decapitating a man at Apodaca Park on June 20. At the time, Arciniega-Saenz was out of jail on a $2,000 unsecured bond for a separate incident.
An unsecured bond means that a defendant has to pay that money only if they abscond from court hearings.
During Tuesday s pretrial detention hearing, Arciniega-Saenz s defense attorney argued that his client should be released.
