Are rich and can hire fancy accountants and lawyers and lobbyists to help create special tax statuses. Im talking about americans dependent on Government Programs many im not talking about disability or Social Security or medicare, programs they made into. Im talking about programs that assist antipoverty programs. Something else we should talk about again. Some are not working in terms of helping people escape poverty. Im talking about people who work and make just enough not to qualify for any of that stuff but not enough to afford the cost of living. Not just them. You add to that the cost of raising children. Its more expensive to raise children more than ever. There is nothing we can do in tax reform by itself that solves all of those problems, but there is no way we can do tax reform without addressing the millions of americans who feel every time there is a debate in washington its about helping everybody else except for them. So take, for example, the issue of the Child Tax Cre
Are conside tee exceptionally talented women for the federal bench. Federal Circuit Court nominations are extremely important. Circuit courts sit directly below the Supreme Court in our judicial system. And because the Supreme Court reviews relatively few or a smaller number of cases, many times the Circuit Courts have the last word in the majority of our of those cases. So it is essential that we have judges on the Circuit Court who will treat all litigants fairly. When i think about what do i want in a judge, i think fairness is the first thing that comes to mind. We want someone who treats litigants fairly, who show respect for our constitution, our statutes, and the controlling precedents. So we need somebody knowledgeable in the law. Mr. President , today i rise with my colleague from new mexico, senator heinrich, in discussing the securing americas voting equipment act of 2017 or the save act which we introduced earlier this week. Mr. President , i know that youre well aware that the Senate Intelligence committee has been conducting an indepth investigation into attempts by the russians to interfere with our election last fall. What we have found is the russians active measures preceded last fall and they continue to this very day. We have election coming up in november of this year and a major election next year and both senator heinrich and i believe that it is so important that we act to assist states in protecting the integrity of their Voting Systems. Our bi
We were certainly lucky to have a professor of his caliber. Professor bibas then took a position on the faculty of the university of Pennsylvania Law School where he has been teaching since. Professor bibas has been prolific in his academic writings, publishing numerous articles on all aspects of criminal law. His Academic Work culminated in the publication of his book entitled the machinery of criminal justice. That book was published 2012. In this book and many of his articles, professor bibas criticized the current model of bureaucratic assemblyline justice and americas high incarceration rate. Much of his work has been devoted to finding solutions to these problems. His Academic Work has certainly had an impact on the law. In fact, professor bibas is one of the most cited law professors in judicial opinions. One study shows he is the 15th most cited legal scholar by total judicial opinions, and he is the fifth most cited in the area of criminal law. Not bad for a relatively young p
