Things Discussed: BGSU: The interceptions! Brian says he was wrong and Seth/Devin/Butt/Everyone else was right that Barner drifted too far back. Was that on Barner or the design? Barner, also Barnhart getting beat and JJ didn't put it where he wanted to. Second INT: Johnson has to run his route even if Wilson was the right read. Third INT: Shoot your shot! Sam/Craig/Program disagree. BGSU: The run game. We love Henderson's reach. He seems to be comfortable. Guess is Barnhart/Zinter is their best combination on the right side and that means they go with the next left tackle, who is Henderson. BGSU: The defense. Nobody wants any part of these DTs third straight opponent throwing most of their offense in the recycling bin because they can't block inside. Graham is the best. Jenkins is a star. Grant is a freak. Don't sleep on Benny. Goode had a good game. We even like Trey Pierce. Rutgers: They have a real defense. Michigan is going to take them seriously. Their offense
Things Discussed: NOTE: The first 29 minutes are on Mel Tucker/MSU. I get on with Sam early to talk about the leak, and then the panel joins to discuss what we've know and don't know. If you want to skip all that, go to 29:01. BGSU Double-Agents Craig Ross and Jack Harbaugh are exposed. Next MSU coach? Paul Chryst? He banked his program on Graham Mertz, but it's one mistake. Craig: Chryst would be their Tommy Amaker palette-cleanser. Illinois: defense has fallen apart despite having a 1st rounder in Jer'zhan Newton. UNLV review: JJ has been incredible. Defensive line is coming in over expectations. Gameplan vs UNLV was have them win doubles and they did it flawlessly. Run game issues: They've got 3 guys who are hypothetically good at OZ and then they have Hinton and Keegan who are moving away from their best assets. Lost their identity: haven't run a pin & pull all year. OZ is expensive; if they actually get that good at it they are the best OL of all
Things Discussed: WHY U NO RUSHING YARDS? Because ECU was so committed to stopping inside runs that they run blitzed after every time they got nailed by play-action. Michigan, you're allowed to run PA twice in a row guys. WHY U NO SACKS? Because ECU was so committed to not getting their QBs hit that they threw dinks and quick fades; when they did run actual pass plays Michigan stunted a DT into their faces and they had to throw it away. WHY U NO RUN OUTSIDE? Michigan got the Corum run on stretch but not their identity. Brian: they should make their identity "Pick your poison" because JJ is so good. Also tried Arc without the QB part and planned cutbacks. Michigan should bring back that pitch they used in 2015-'16. WHY U NO RPO? Sam: They're in there but they aren't going to use them. Seth: Because they're expensive to install and they're not as repeatable against different defenses. Maybe not a great idea in Week 1 when you don't have the ot
Things Discussed: Realignment news: will Big Ten and SEC band together? Seth: Whatever what they’ve created isn’t tenable because it’s 100% money-driven so it’s going to get blown up anyways. Also Seth: Where are the elected officials? At least one regent has spoken out but even he isn’t going to stand in the way. Why aren’t we holding people accountable for making decisions that are only about money if we care about things other than money? Or are we part of the same hypocrisy? What’s up with the NCAA? They’re a failed org that nobody but Warde Manuel takes seriously. Barnhart starting? Probably an early fall thing, and a mental thing, because Jones grades out higher. They do love Barnhart as a 6th guy but he’s also started the most and played the most for Michigan of all their options, and as we saw with Cade last year, that counts in this program. May see them use the nonconf games for tryouts again. Somebody there has an agenda to get Jim Harbaugh, and Harbaugh ha
Things Discussed: Four-game suspension for Harbaugh? NCAA doesn’t understand that they can’t operate like it’s 1998 with one team the same week they’re letting a friend off for the biggest scandal since Pony Express. The commonality is the NCAA has a sweet spot where it has to be harsh enough that it looks like they’re serious while not being serious enough to affect anybody’s bottom line. Michigan and Tennessee stand out because one was too small and one too big to fit the narrative that the NCAA is actually in charge of anything. Who’s going to coach? Seth: Four games, four future coaches on staff, so let’s have tryouts! Other suggestions are to leave the defense alone, have Sherrone coach when he can and Mike Hart take the other game. Big Ten Media Days: Don’t care what’s said. Ohio State Preview: They might not have an A+ quarterback, Seth will believe Ryan Day and that offense have less than A- when it happens but Brian watched the OSU spring game and it didn
