Various authors - Those who now tolerate a Russian victory also tolerate a victory for both global and “domestic” fossil and commodity-based capital, which is closely intertwined with the Russian fossil and extractive sectors. Therefore, a new anti-militarist movement must uphold solidarity with the civil as well as armed resistance of the Ukrainian people, and with the Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian leftists who oppose the Putin regime’s war.

Last week, we wrote that the Left Party would use its party congress to “set an even more direct course towards government participation and support for war.” This assessment has been fully confirmed with the election of Janine Wissler and Susanne Hennig-Wellsow as new chairpersons and their public appearances since then.
At their first joint press conference on Monday, the two made clear what lies behind the new party motto “Awakening in a new era” a government alliance with the pro-war and pro-austerity Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Greens now also at federal level. “If we can negotiate it reasonably, we will be ready to take responsibility,” Hennig-Wellsow said. “In principle,” she added, “we are called upon to modify policies for people in the here and now.”
#ZeroCovid petition: The campaign for a European lockdown requires a socialist perspective
The petition “#ZeroCovid: For a European Shutdown in Solidarity” received its original target of 75,000 signatures within a few days and is now moving towards 100,000. The large support is an expression of the growing opposition to official government policy that puts the profits of big business above saving human lives.
The petition is modelled on the call for the consistent containment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe published in December by several hundred renowned scientists in the medical journal
The Lancet and complements it with proposals to cushion the social consequences.
