the three expelled democrat now speaking outside the tennessee capital, let s liste in our constituents from the gallery will remove the pres and we were able to keep everybody there. and it s so critical, when these kinds of things ar happening in this state, we ar marching into fascism with a supermajority that has prove that absolute power corrupts absolutely [applause] and i just cannot say enough about how proud i am always an forever to stand with these tw brilliant, young men, wh connect with their community who really listen an understand the voters in their districts, and across the state, who can tell everybody in th most powerful way, they spok to our members they won t admit it, i don t think. but they spoke to those hearts
you re talking, well, this i just racially charged. no they hate us and this is wha hate looks like. i don t know if we have the sound, representative andrew farmer, i believe, was his name, speaking to representative johnson. if there s any way to find that, that would be great. there s also this sort o democratic decline, which ha been one of the big themes here, right? in our coverage of the country right? we ve got the situation in which, again, this is a stat that donald trump won by something like 22 points this is a fairly saf republican state, in many ways statewide office, they went th extra step, harry, to give themselves the extra power o 75 seats, or whatever it is. so, they have this unbelievabl power on their hands and eve with that, you see the expelling rightfully elected members of the state yeah, i mean, i at leas link it to the national
representatives, and of anyone who wants to talk about seriou measures around gun violence the turning off of their mics, the speaker not acknowledgin individuals to speak, callin the question before there been debate. so, what you heard today is th exposure of what has been an entirely anti democratic practice in the texas, tennessee house, under thi speakers leadership. and what happened to tha protest with the refusal o these representatives to allow their voice to be silenced boyd by the power of these young people who came out of school and representativ johnson said it today. young people, many of whom cannot yet vote, many of who feel disenfranchised, but al of whom feel terrified by th possibility of gun violence, particularly in their schools. and they refused to be silenced, but this comes as there has to be a context here of the anti-democratic way in which these representatives an others, because you heard othe members of the black coffe caucus say the same thing. they hav
republican party of tennesse clear. but the republica supermajority in that chambe went ahead with a vote to expe mr. jones for protesting gun violence anywhere. the world is watching tennessee. the world is watchin tennessee. because what is happening here today is a farce of democracy. this is a historic day for tennessee, but it is may mark very dark day for tennessee, because it was signaled to the nation that there is n democracy in this state. it will signal to the nation and that if it can happen here in tennessee, it s coming to
that we are that is better than the presen that we currently have [inaudible anything else you want to say? we will keep fighting for people in nashville, in memphis, across the state of tennessee, and across the united states o america, who want justice. we deserve it. this is our birthright, ou inheritance is not just some pieces of paper in constitutions and rules. it s the advocacy and th willingness to protest for what s right, to create and to advocate for laws tha make justice more possible and so, that s what we re goin to do. thank you, sir. god bless you that is justin pearson, he one of the representatives tha was expelled today, along with justin jones and other representative, another as he, said young black man elected b the constituents and voters in their district to represen them in the house and no expelled by that same house. the choice of those individual in those districts rejected by the overwhelmingly white majority of the republican caucus in the
