In the spring of 1910, the earth passed through the tale of haleys comet. It seemed to foreshadow the deadly fire that would engulf the Northern Rockies. No amount of money, equipment, or firefighters could stop the hurricane of fire that raged out andontrol on august 20 21st, 1910. There was a president ial memorial delayed for years. It was caught up in congressional infighting, and replace it with another. A powerful lobby behind the memorial had chosen this site, the designer, the design criticize in the press. The site was very close to the capital on maryland avenue.
