ONLY one in 12 pupils will be able to access the government’s puffed-up summer school plans, Labour’s analysis of official data has found.
Labour, which looked at summer school funding plans, has demanded that ministers put children at the heart of a national recovery.
In February, the government announced funding for summer schools to support children’s following the lockdown.
But only 8 per cent of students will able to access it, Labour said.
For incoming Year 7 pupils, the funding would provide just one week of summer teaching and activities.
Shadow education secretary Kate Green said: “These half-baked summer school plans are yet more evidence of the Conservatives’ failure to deliver on their promises on children’s recovery.
