healthcare reform. when they wanted to take away the healthcare the american people broke the switchboard. then we fill town halls. a lot of the republicans will be holding town halls, democrats will be holding democrat town halls this summer. say we demand for you to reunion my over 2,000 children. that is simple. then we make sure we demand when we make those calls to congress we demand a congressional oversight hearing. we have to make sure that nielsen, sessions, lloyd and azure all get their stories straight because right now they are saying that they don t understand what one agency done with the other. these are american tax dollars at work. i want to make sure that they are in front of congress under oath so they are not perjure themselves. what happens if the trump administration simply violates the court order to return the children? then we have to take it to the voting to the ballot box. we have to take it to november and we have to vote them out. i mean, that really
elitist mentality and elitist society amongst themselves. neil: i don t know what the skinny was on that. guys like myself are thought of as celebrities, there s knowledge wrong with that. i m i d can kidding. it s getting beyond the pale here. everybody bonds with oh, the president is here and all this stuff. and but it s just i don t know i seems creepy to me. i like covering these dinners. it s one time of year i have a rubber chicken dinner and lindsey lohan is prancing around. behind that, the celebrity element, the entertainer helps make it a tv spectacle and raise more money neil: they can do that without doing this. exactly.
so could a fourth or fifth or sixth time be the charge? i honestly have lost count. i don t know where we are. that s become the question when it comes to replacing ae repeal replacing obamacare. state republicans have put a version of it into their new tax bill to help pay for it. does this help or hurt its chances? more importantly right now, what does this mean for you and health care in america right now? joining me to discuss, dr. zeke emanuel, cnn contributor and former health policy adviser to president obama and lonnie chen, who is the chief policy adviser to mitt romney. great to see both of you. good to be here. lonnie, let me go to you first. you wrote an op-ed in the washington post after the skinny repeal failed in the senate. and in that, you said, the skinny repeal would have come nowhere close to have solving the problems that plague our health care system. why, then, is something of a skinny repeal now going to solve republicans tax reform
basically trying to get rich quick kind of doctor. i think there s a lot of momentum this week. it may be last of 48 for this bill. now congress is going home. can they withstand the pressure from something like the jimmy kimmel appearance last night? the facebook comments that will go around? can they withstand and come back in a vote next week? kennedy: you bring up a b really good point in that s charity hospitals. some of the best care in this country comes from places like shriners and st. jude s. and the various children s hospitals across the country. if you talk to people who haveav done surgical residency is, they will tell you that they worked in county hospitals and there are so many surgeons who do a lot of pro bono work. and those are some of the mostof challenging cases when they actually learned the most. any child who goes in the hospital who has a life-threatening heart condition and needs surgery is g not going to be turned away. there something in this country
obamacare is unwinding and there s nobody for repeal more than i but i can t vote for something that s not really repeal. jesse: president trump calls the bill great and says rand is a friend but it s a negative force when it comes to fixing health care. here s more familiar from the president.he i think there s tremendous support. it s much better than the previous shot, which was very sadly i think a lot of republicans are embarrassed by it. they do a great job if this happens, it will be a great thing. jesse: former president obama sounded off on the new attempt to overhaul his signature legislation. when i see people trying to undo the hard work progress for the 50th or 60th time, it is aggravating. it certainly frustrating to have to mobilize every couple of months to keep our leaders from inflicting real human suffering on our constituents.
