Elderly residents living in nursing homes can vote for the presidential elections in the institution where they live, but must register on the platform for early voting by 17 January, the Government announced.

Portugal today registers 148 deaths related to Covid-19 and 10,698 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, the highest daily value of infections since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Directorate General for Health (DGS).
The number of cases today exceeds that of Wednesday, the day on which Portugal registered 10,556 infections.
The DGS epidemiological bulletin also indicates that 4,368 people are hospitalized, 128 more than on Wednesday, of which 611 are in intensive care, or 15 more.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, Portugal has recorded 8,384 deaths associated with Covid-19 and 517,806 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and 121,815 cases are now active, 5,487 more

The new general lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic applies to the whole continental national territory of Portugal and comes into force on Friday, 15 January with the duty to stay at home with the exception of face-to-face education.
As part of the modification of the state of emergency in force from 14 January and the extension for a further fifteen days until 30 January, the government has today determined a series of extraordinary measures to limit the spread of the pandemic and protect public health .
Among the measures are restrictions on the movement of the population, compulsory teleworking and the closure of trade, with the exception of establishments of essential goods and services.
