this animal was probably investigating the surfer as possible prey, did not bite for reasons unknown. we actually would call that an encounter, believe it or not and not call it an attack. but, nevertheless, this is nothing like what we had in north carolina. well, the sharks obviously is up to no good there is a lot of space in the ocean and picked nic fanning to bump into. he is obviously up to no good. i mean, that part of south africa is white shark territory. that is their home. they there actually have been about 100 incidents over the last about 100 years and 14 fatalities in that part of south africa. so, this is not unexpected for that part of the world. and i think there was a fatality about two years ago. the surfers know he this and i bet if you ask mr. fanning himself, he would say hey, i know there are sharks there. we take our chances. and we appreciate that sharks live in the ocean. what can be done.
greta. okay. when you watched that video what do you think? well, no question it s terrifying to watch that and see that guy come so close to being in the jaws of a a great white shark and there is no question in my mind that that was a great white. what s really interesting is the shark actually never did bite him and didn t even bite the board. so the motivation of the shark, kind of questionable in this case. but that guy had a very close encounter of the worst kind. all right. now, we have had those i-attacks off the coast of the carolinas and you and i have talked before about it. yeah. is there a particular shark type that tends to be more aggressive towards humans or other or luck of the draw you say that was a great white. this is a completely different situation from north carolina. we were dealing with a small species of shark probably up there called the black tip shark, 6-foot long animal that eats fish. the great whites feed on large prey. and this is totally d

in south africa oddly similar to the surge in shark attacks here at home off the carolina coast. is there a global surge in shark attacks? a coincidence or are we just paying a whole lot of attention to them? that was the first i saw it was when it was biting up my left arm. kind of hit my arm. coming over with the white wash. this has come as a complete shock in this community. you know two serious injuries from a shark attack. someone has been bit by a shark. he got out of water and bit by a shark. i couldn t believe what i was seeing. i was screaming and i was gelling at joules. i was terrified. i thought we lost him. he popped up. he has gone under. i felt like i couldn t get there quick enough. studied sharks for more than 50 years. he joins us. nice to have you back, sir. good to be back with you
