It was on this day in 1969 (January 30) the Beatles went up on the rooftop of the offices of their multimedia corporation Apple Corps at 3 Savile Row. Joined by keyboardist Billy Preston they lit into a 42-minute set, playing nine takes of five songs before the Metropolitan Police Service asked them to reduce the volume. It would be the band s last concert together. Footage from the performance was later used in the 1970 documentary film
Let It Be, which is about to get a remake courtesy of
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.
