A day after recording a slight dip, Maharashtra again withnessed a spike with close to 10,000 new coronavirus cases. As per updates, the state reported 9,927 new Covid-19 cases which took the caseload to 22,38,398, while 56 fatalities pushed up the death count to 52,556. On the other hand, 12,182 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the tally of recoveries to 20,89,294.
The Nashik district administration imposed several restrictions starting Tuesday after the number of COVID-19 cases rose by 675 to touch 1,26,570 on Monday. The day also saw six people dying from the infection and 389 recovering.

Thane: 16 COVID-19 hotspots under lockdown
Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases, Thane Municipal Corporation on Tuesday imposed a lockdown at 16 hotspot areas from today till March 31. Activities will be allowed in areas outside hotspots as per relaxation given under Mission Begin Again by the Maharashtra government. Earlier, a lockdown between March 13 and 31 was declared in 11 hotspots in Thane city by the civic administration. The order, issued by Thane Municipal Commissioner Vipin Sharma, said the decision was taken due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in these areas in the past few days.Â
It said all restrictions that were in place during the nationwide lockdown declared earlier would be in force during this time as well.

The Nashik district administration decided to impose the weekend lockdown after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took stock of the situation in the state. As per the new order, no weddings will be allowed in the state from March 15. However, the functions for which permission was granted earlier can be organised.
