The Nashik district administration imposed several restrictions starting Tuesday after the number of COVID-19 cases rose by 675 to touch 1,26,570 on Monday. The day also saw six people dying from the infection and 389 recovering.
The notification in Thane sates that enforcement of the limited lockdown should begin in the concerned areas with immediate effect. Thane officials said there were restrictions in place till February 28 in keeping with the state mandate but with rising numbers, a fresh list has been formulated. Some of the prominent areas, with their limits defined, under lockdown are Aainagar Kalwa, Chendani Koliwada, Srinagar, Runwal Garden City Balkum, Hiranandani Estate, Shivai Nagar and Runwal Nagar Kolbad.
Sandeep Malvi, Thane deputy municipal commissioner, said, “All commercial units would be shut except for essential services like chemists, dairies, groceries and other notified units that will be operative during the period.” A total lockdown cannot be imposed without the Centre’s permission, and recently in Amravati and other hotspots in Vidarbha, the authorities had imposed stringent curbs just short of a lockdown.
