Five design teams have been shortlisted to masterplan a huge £8bn regeneration project in south-east London.
They include leading practices such as Alison Brooks, Mikhail Riches and Shard architect William Matthews as well as emerging names including Jas Bhalla Architects and Madeleine Kessler, co-curator of the British Pavilion at the delayed Venice Biennale.
The 250-acre scheme, known as Thamesmead Waterfront, is set to provide at least 11,500 new homes plus commercial and leisure space across more than a mile of undeveloped river frontage at the sprawling estate made famous by the film A Clockwork Orange.

Allies and Morrison has teamed up with – among others – AJ 40 under 40 member Jas Bhalla, while Prior + Partners is leading a bid with West 8 of Rotterdam, Alison Brooks Architects, Turner Works, and AJ 40 under 40 talent Jayden Ali’s JA Projects.

An all-star longlist featuring more than 100 firms and designers have been published for the £8 billion Thamesmead Waterfront development. Peabody and Lendlease are leading the 250 acre development in south east London which they say has the capacity for thousands of new homes and significant commercial and leisure space. Set amongst the lakes, green space and over a mile of undeveloped river frontage, the Thamesmead Waterfront project focuses on the land next to the Thamesmead Estate. The 10 longlisted teams, formed of over 100 firms and individuals, were announced in January after winning the Masterplanning competition. They include six AJ 40 under 40 emerging practices among other major industry names.

£1m funding deal inked with London boroughs to extend Docklands Light Railway
Transport for London (TfL) has begun feasibility work on a proposed extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) across the river Thames to link up with thousands of planned homes at Thamesmead in Greenwich.
A £1m deal to fund the work has been inked between the boroughs of Greenwich and Newham and Thamesmead Waterfront, the JV between Peabody and Lendlease which is developing the huge £8bn scheme to build at least 11,500 homes on a 250-acre riverside site in south east London.
The route will link Gallions Reach near London City airport with Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside
