Saint Louis Super Swiss recap: Jacobson the clear winner

The first-ever Saint Louis Super Swiss tournament took place last month at the Saint Louis University. The turnout was stacked with titled players, largely thanks to local students participating from Saint Louis University, Webster University, and The University of Missouri. Scoring 6.5/9 and winning clear first place was GM Brandon Jacobson, who won his final two games against GMs Lazaron Bruzon and Yasser Quesada. Texas Tech claims 3rd Kasparov Chess Foundation University Cup

The Kasparov Chess Foundation organized the third annual KCF University Cup. This event was played on lichess.org and hosted on chessstream.com on the weekend of February 4 and 5, 2023. The tournament attracted well over 500 university students from every continent and from nearly thirty countries. The event was a resounding success.

Fabiano Caruana is the 2022 U S champion

Fabiano Caruana won the 2022 U.S. Championship with an undefeated +4 score after drawing Levon Aronian in the final round of the tournament in Saint Louis. Ray Robson finished in clear second place, while Leinier Dominguez and Awonder Liang shared the third spot in the standings. U S Championships: Krush leapfrogs Yu

Going into Wednesday’s final round, Fabiano Caruana and Irina Krush are sole leaders in the open and women’s sections of the U.S. Championships, respectively. Nine out of fourteen games finished decisively in round 11 of the U.S. Championships. In the open, Fabiano Caruana continues to lead, with Ray Robson a half point back, while Leinier Dominguez and Sam Sevian both won to climb to shared third place. In the women’s event, Jennifer Yu leads Irina Krush by a half point after both contenders for first place won their games with the black pieces.
