For nearly 40 years, the parade served as one of Richmond’s premier go-to events and for many, it was a family tradition. Each year, crowds in the tens of thousands made their way to the city’s bustling Broad St., to watch the 100-foot-long fantastical balloons, the dozens of marching bands and to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus, who always made a special, early visit to the river city.
