trump? is it good if they compete and we ll get the best candidate? absolutely. i think it is going to be a really big field. interestingly enough as each additional person gets in, one may think well, president trump does not want all these competitors but there is a certain amount of base that s voting for him no matter what. the bigger the field gets, tim scott and mike pence and mike pompeo, if everybody gets in, i think it plays to president trump s advantage. i think having a good spirited, healthy debate process is fantastic. what s important is when it is done and there is a nominee. everyone needs to get behind th th ththat th th thth winner or joe biden going to get a second term. [ applause ] i am about to say, he s no dice clay, you can clap, it is all good. i can t believe you
to go to it. you saw the facility where th ththat there are tunnels at the nuclear facility where they were blown up. based on where you were, it looks like the sides of the mountains are being blown up. any way to verify exactly what happened there? reporter: there there isn t a way to really verify it. all we can do is observe. we don t know how deep into the tunnels the explosions went. the north koreans said that they were being transparent. there were no nuclear weapons experts with us to actually authenticate if what we were seeing was truly the irreversible destruction of the nuclear test site. the entire trip from start to finish surreal. from the moment i landed in wansan, i knew the story was unlike any other. 18 trips to north korea, and this country still keeps me guessing. for more than 24 hours, we didn t even know if our trip to the nuclear site would happen.
sanctions on north korea. then you go into the bigger picture, president trump at odds with the world on climate change. you have president macron recently saying, you know, th ththat to paraphrase what president trump said about put america first, make america great again, he said make the world great again. then there are tensions with angela merkel over trade, the way he s criticized her policy toward refugees. from a president trump perspective going into this, he has a lot of tensions ahead of him. many leaders will look to him, and he will feel the pressure to try to gather consensus on what to do about north korea. as we see, he he s not shown so far the temperament to gather that kind of compromise. thank you. trump s unpopularity may be shaping how some world leaders deal with him.
the president feels a need to x ex-mae explain a military situation? clearly he is sensitive of how this is being perceived by the public. yes, and what was interesting is the secretary of defense came out in a statement this afternoon and said the strike had eliminated 20% of the operational syrian air force. that was much more specific information. because it was in some ways an in-your-face move by the russians and the syrians the next day to fly off the very same air base and to show th ththat, to try to show, anyway, the u.s. air strike had meant virtually nothing in terms of operational capabilities. so we re now into a confrontation of kind of competition now on who s really having the most impact and is the u.s. able to in any way confine or restrict syria s capabilities? is it do you find it odd that he s that the secretary of state is going to meet with sergey lavrov, defense ministry, headed to russia, and not meet with putin?
