Tesla has held discussions with union government officials, exploring the possibility of bringing its auto parts and electronics chain to India and of getting incentives and tax breaks in the process, said people with knowledge of the matter.
Tesla is reportedly in talks with the Indian government to establish its auto parts and electronics chain in the country, as well as seek incentives and tax benefits. The discussions follow a meeting between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tesla has started discussions with the Indian government for an investment proposal to set up a car factory in the country, with an annual capacity of as many as 500,000 electric vehicles.
The US-headquartered electric vehicle maker has shown interest in bringing its own supply chain ecosystem and establishing a manufacturing base for cars and batteries in India.
