Support the museum millage

Support the museum millage This letter is to urge the people of Monroe County to vote yes for the upcoming museum millage proposal on May 4. The video “Save our Stories” on the www.monroe-stories .org is an excellent display of why this is such an important issue for all of Monroe County. The millage represents over 95% of the operating budget for the Monroe County Museum System (MCMS). This supports not only the museum but also the Monroe County Archives, Territorial Park, St. Antoine’s Historic Site and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial & Museum. This renewal has been in place for the past 10 years and will be an increase of about $5 a year for a total of $15 annually as an estimate of a home valued at $200,000.

City of Monroe endorses museum millage renewal and increase

City of Monroe endorses museum millage renewal and increase The City of Monroe has endorsed the proposed renewal and increase of the Monroe County Museum System’s operating millage.  Monroe City Council on Monday unanimously approved a resolution of support for the proposed renewal of the museum’s current, .10-mill levy, as well as a requested .05-mill increase. Monroe County residents will vote on these two issues on May 4.  If approved by voters, the 10-year millage would generate $991,500 in revenue in its first year. The present levy – which, without increase, would generate $643,648 for the museum - expires at the end of this year.
