After three people were killed in gang-related shootings over a four-day period, Lower Mainland homicide investigators said the cluster of deaths is troubling and irregular, but not a new challenge for their team.

The family of Tequel Willis is pushing back against what they say is an unfair portrayal of the 14-year-old Black youth murdered last month.
Tiffany Willis, Tequel’s mother, said her son was a good kid.

“He was really kind to his sisters loving, caring. He always looked out for everybody else, too,” Willis said. “He brought everybody home. If you had nowhere to live, you’d be here. Before he died, he left two friends here and they’re still here today.”
Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Frank Jang stood near the park Friday and said the murder appears to be part of the continuing gang conflict. He urged people with information to call police. “Please reach out to us if you’re in a position to help. We’ve got to stop this from happening. This is unacceptable. Everybody agrees it is unacceptable even those in the inner circle of these people who are responsible … agree that this is unacceptable. Let’s do something about it,” Jang said. Mohammed’s murder is the fourth deadly shooting in the Lower Mainland in less than two weeks all believed linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

A convicted drug-trafficker with links to the Wolf Pack and Brothers Keepers (BK) gang was shot to death in Richmond on Thursday night in suspected retaliation for the slaying of a rival the day before.
Anees Mohammed, 29, was gunned down at about 8:30 p.m. in Steveston Park in a quiet residential area near McMath Secondary school.
