The Oldman watershed has 11 councils across Alberta. They are non-profit and a registered charity, with one of them based in Lethbridge. They are a collaborative forum for solving environmental challenges. Posted: May 1, 2021 The Ktunaxa Nation Council (KNC) has sent a letter to the federal government requesting a federal environmental impact assessment for the proposed re-start of an open-cut coal mine 26 km south of Crowsnest Pass. In an April 1 letter to Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Greg Bosse, Project Manager, Prairie and Northern Region Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, the Ktunaxa Nation asks that Montem Resources’ Tent Mountain Project undergo a review under section 9(1) of the Impact Assessment Act (the Act). According to Montem’s website, the Tent Mountain Mine straddles both sides of the southwest Alberta and southeast British Columbia border. It has current mine permits in both Alberta and British Columbia covering steelmaking coal reserves, and the company is working with regulators to obtain mining licences to enable the re-start of open-cut mining.

Montem Resources continues development plans for Category-4 projects not affected by Alberta Government coal decision Alberta Government has halted all exploration activities on Category-2 lands until completion of the public consultation on a new coal development policy for the province. The independent committee undertaking the public consultation will report to Alberta Government by November 15. Montem Resources Ltd (ASX:MR1) is continuing its development plans for two coal projects in Alberta that remain unaffected by a recent provincial government decision to halt all exploration activities on Alberta 1976 Coal Development Policy Category-2 lands. This government decision will be in force while it completes a public consultation process for development of a new Coal Policy.
