Alex Eala ends first W60 tournament campaign with loss to Swiss foe

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 9) – Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala ended her first W60 tournament campaign on Friday (Philippine time) after being beaten by hometown bet Simona Waltert in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 2-6, at Bellinzona, Switzerland.
Eala had a strong start in the first set after she held a 4-1 lead, but Waltert delivered timely aces and break points to win six of the next seven games as the Swiss gained a set advantage.
The 15-year-old Filipino made sure not to relinquish her lead in the second set after getting a couple of break points to force a deciding third frame, 6-3.

India’s Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha scored a convincing 6-3, 7-6 win over American fourth seed Oliver Crawford in the ITF Men’s $15,000 New Delhi final at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium here yesterday.
The victory helped Poonacha earn India its maiden home win in Singles in the ITF World Tennis Tour series, which began in early March. With this triumph, Poonacha also ended his title drought on the ITF Men’s Tour since his maiden win in Indonesia in 2018.
The 25-year-old resident of Anantpur, Poonacha got through the first set comfortably and took the lead in the match. However, Crawford, the winner of last week’s $15,000 Pune event, made a strong bid to come back in the second set and take the match into the decider.
