Hope Mills, N.C. Fuquay-Varina defeated South View in the second round of the 2021 NCHSAA 4A softball playoffs thanks to a big pitching and offensive performance by Michele Tarpey. The senior is committed to play softball at NC State. Tarpey pitched 12 strikeouts, allowed no hits, and had four runs batted in offensively. She hit a solo home run, a triple, and a double.
The Bengals won 11-1 in five innings. The game ended due to the Ten Run Rule. Fuquay only had seven hits on the night. The Bengals were able to capitalize on some South View errors and a couple of wild pitches.

Wednesday marks 20 years since a tragic plane crash took the lives of 10 members of the Oklahoma State family.
The night of the crash Oklahoma State vowed to always Remember the Ten and the university has kept that promise and not just on this day, but year-round.
On January 27, 2001, ten members of the Oklahoma State basketball team and staff were returning to Oklahoma from Colorado when the plane crashed into a field during a snowstorm, killing everyone on board.
The group referred to as The Ten are OSU basketball players Nate Fleming, and Daniel Lawson, student assistant Jared Weiberg, athletic trainer Brian Luinstra, director of basketball operations Pat Noyes, OSU athletic media relations coordinator Will Hancock, broadcast engineer Kendall Durfey, News 9 Sports Director Bill Teegins, and pilots Bjorn Fahlstrom and Denver Mills.
