9-year-old boy dies following Tempe duplex fire near Curry Road and McClintock Drive

Loved ones hold a candlelight vigil for Tempe boy who lost his life in a duplex fire
TEMPE, Ariz. - A 9-nine-year old boy died following a large fire that burned through a duplex, says the Tempe Fire Department on Wednesday.
The fire broke out near
Curry Road and McClintock Drive around 2 p.m. When crews arrived, heavy smoke and fire was coming out from the homes.
The child was rushed to the hospital where he died from unspecified injuries. The family identified him as Jesus Garcia.

The college graduate landed here in
early September, figuring schools in Mesa start as they do in most of the country â after Labor Day.
Negative: âI was too late. They start school here in August, and everyone had their hiring done by the time I got here,â she said with a laugh.
Her brother, Gil Damiani, worked for the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. He told his sister they were hiring.
âHe said, âYou have to be physically fit, but itâs a job where you really help the community.â I thought about it, since I was active in high school and college playing sports, the fact you help people â that was a good fit,â she reflected.

Fire officials say recent rain, in addition to new growth, means 2021 s fire season could be a bad one yet again.
PHOENIX - Fire season could be headed for an early start in 2021.
In recent days, several brush fires reported along the freeway in the Phoenix area, and
high winds on March 3 didn t help either. In fact, high wind conditions resulted in a brush fire starting up in Tempe. That fire was originally an RV fire.
Officials with the Tempe Fire Department say winds were at nearly 30 miles per hour on Wednesday.
