Covid-19: Malaysia reports highest number of daily Covid-19 recoveries with 4,525; lowest new infections in 30 days

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14): Malaysia recorded the highest number of daily Covid-19 recoveries since the start of the pandemic today with 4,525, as new infections dropped to 2,464 cases, according to the Ministry of Health. Today also saw the lowest confirmed cases reported over the past 30 days. As a result, the number of active cases,  which carry high transmission risks, fell below the 50,000-mark to 49,490. Total confirmed cases currently stand at 264,269, while cumulative recoveries rose to 213,814, or a national recovery rate of 80.9%. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said in a statement that seven deaths were reported today, pushing the coronavirus death toll in the country to 965.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,692 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 186,970. In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 238,721. ADVERTISEMENT There are 50,894 active cases, with 305 patients being treated in intensive care and 139 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 12 deaths take the death toll to 857. The new cases today involved 3,843 local infections and four imported cases. Local cases comprised 2,569 Malaysians and 1,274 foreigners. Selangor detected the highest number of cases again with 1,481. Other states and federal territories that recorded three-digit infections comprised Johor (585), Kuala Lumpur (402), Melaka (329), Sabah (233), Penang (211), Sarawak (185) and Negeri Sembilan (133).

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,661 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 173,990. In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 222,628. ADVERTISEMENT There are 47,847 active cases with 327 patients being treated in intensive care and 145 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 21 deaths take the toll to 791. The new cases today involved 3,450 local infections and five imported cases. Selangor again had the highest number of cases with 1,145, and was the only state to record four-digit infections today.

The previous highest number of daily deaths was 18, recorded barely two weeks ago on Jan 22. The new additions raised the country’s coronavirus death toll to 791 and cumulative infections to 222,628, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today. The youngest of the new fatalities was aged 36 and the oldest was 83 years old. All but one of them were Malaysians. Twelve of the fatalities were reported in Selangor, four in Sabah, two each in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, and one in Kedah. All but one case had comorbidities, which means they had one or more other health conditions. 

Covid-19: Selangor records 1,362 new cases

PETALING JAYA: Selangor continued to record high Covid-19 numbers, with 1,362 cases detected on Monday (Feb 1). Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the state was followed by Johor (1,068 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (702). Of the cases in Selangor, he said 967 came from clusters and close contact screenings that were actively being done in the field. (In Selangor) 185 cases came from clusters, including 123 from the new clusters - Jalan Lagoon construction site, Puchong Industry, and Sungai Purun, he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 1). He added that 782 other cases were from close contact screenings, three were imported cases, and 392 cases were from other Covid-19 screenings.
