AstraZeneca, Sputnik makers respond to Telangana vaccine tender

Telangana has called for global tenders for supply of one crore doses. The tender process, which began on May 21, will close on June 4
The initial response to Telangana’s global tender to procure Covid-19 vaccines has elicited encouraging response, with AstraZeneca and Sputnik manufacturer expressing their willingness to supply the vaccine.
“AstraZeneca and Sputnik have responded to our tenders. The Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation is in negotiations with them,” G Srinivasa Rao, Director of Telangana Public Health Department, has said.
AstraZeneca manufactures Covishield branded vaccines, which are already being used in the country.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Friday extended the ongoing night curfew till May 8, putting all speculations of an impending lockdown to rest. State chief secretary Somesh Kumar passed a GO, extending the existing curfew. Many had been expecting a complete shut down, given that thousands of COVID-19 cases are being reported everyday in the southern state.
Prior to this, the Telangana government on April 20 had passed an order restricting movement of the general public from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a period of 10 days. On that day, the state had reported nearly 6,000 new COVID-19 cases. On Friday, 7,646 new cases had been reported. In Hyderabad, hospitals run out of beds, Remdesivir supply centralised
April 18, 2021 The Covid-19 situation in Hyderabad is turning alarming as Covid-19 transmission increases by the day and top corporate hospitals in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are running out of beds.
“We have 90 beds for Covid patients at our Jubilee Hills facility. All of them are occupied,” a spokesperson of Apollo Hospitals told
BusinessLine.
A spokesperson of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), which has 282 Covid beds, said the hospital has a wait list of 30 patients at any given time.
Medicover Hospitals, which has 404 Covid beds in three branches, also reported full occupancy.
