Trucks, working to repair the highway here, after this fiery crash. Part of the highway, it looks like, was damaged. So theyve got the street sweepers and looks like crews out here. And looks like theyre doing some patchup work to the highway. So we dont know when this northbound part of 101 at Bailey Avenue will be reopened. But this all started 3 30 this morning. Thats when the crash was reported. And this was the dramatic scene the driver saw as they passed the four vehicles on fire. According to chp, it started with a single vehicle that spun out, hit the center divide. Three other cars crashed into it. One ignited and before long, all four vehicles were on fire on the freeway. We know one person was killed. At one point, firefighters and chp had to shut down all. Lanes of northbound 101, south of 85. Now, they have one lane open. I was just driving home from work. Man, i just saw a bunch of fire. And there was like three cars. And theyre just engulfed. It was a pretty bad accident
May have caused the fire. And me . Reporter the good news is firefighters seem to be getting the upper hand on the fire. It is holding at about 58 acres. The Forward Movement has been stopped but you will never take , assume anything for granted because of the heat and the wind in oakley. The fire broke out on sellers avenue ins oakley at around noon time. Scott sky fox was overhead. Residents along the delta road, sellers and criswell were evacuated by Oakley Police and contra costa sheriffs deputies as the chp blocked roads. Firefighters from cal fire and area fired from his battle the flames. Some residents others tried to get animals out of the way. The cops are going to arrest me. They wouldnt give us 10 minutes to get our goats and stuff and get out of your. We are not leaving. They are going to arrest me if i dont. Thats what they told me. Whatever. I have a dog here and my cat and clothing and water and blankets and pillows and things. And a litter box. My horses are right here
The first couple of days, but then some of my friends had come in and started saying like, you know, whos still missing . Like soandso and so and so and so and so and i think thats what it started, kind of like clicking in my head a little bit as relief efforts pick up steam on maui, wildfire victims work tonight to come to grips with the devastation all around them. Good evening on this saturday. I am cristina rendon. We are learning tonight of another nine deaths tied to mauis wildfire year. That brings the death toll on the island to 89. Still Emergency Managers expect that number will rise. Its unclear how morgues will be able to accommodate the number of victims considering there is just one hospital and three mortuaries. Relief efforts are intensifying on the island and as volunteers distribute supplies to those in need. Were beginning to get a better assessment of the overall damage. Hawaii governor josh green says 2200 structures were destroyed or damaged and many of those are
