As the world marks 10 years since the start of the crisis, Tayma, an 18-year-old refugee, vividly remembers her first steps into the “journey of life” from the rural town of Deraa in south Syria to Jordan, under the cover of the night, towards the unknown. Tayma was an eight-year-old child when she fled her home with her family in search of safety.
