Fifteen-year-old boy dies in bike race with friends, say Tawau cops

KOTA KINABALU: A 15-year-old boy was killed while racing motorcycles with his friends Tawau, say police.

The individual sought by police to facilitate investigations over a riot at Taman Traulsen, Jalan Persisiran, here, has been nabbed in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday.  Tawau Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas said Jumadi Baba @ Jipun, 35, was found at a car park in the State Capital and will be brought back to Tawau after receiving a remand application.  Police had earlier sought public assistance in tracing the man’s whereabouts after seven others involved in the fight were detained. All seven, aged between 23 and 38, were picked up in separate arrests

ADVERTISEMENT This is, thus far the biggest police drug bust this year involving an estimated 140,000 cases of substance abuse (pic).  Tawau Police Chief ACP Peter Umbuas said the suspects, aged between 16 and 55, comprised three men, one of them a foreigner, and two local women.  Two vehicles boarded by the group were initially tailed by a police team on Anti-Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrant (Atipsom) duty after they were found moving in a suspicious manner last Thursday.

Tawau Police Chief, ACP Peter Umbuas, identified the victim as Lasappek Lakubek, 60, a lorry driver addressed at Sandakan.  The Dmax’s 31-year-old driver and 29-year-old passenger, who both worked as mechanics, escaped unscathed.
