IGP visits Battagram, holds meeting with DPOs

BATTAGRAM: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanaullah Abbasi visited Battagram and presided over a high level meeting of the district police officers (DPOs).
The DPOs from Hazara division briefed the IGP about maintenance of law and order and performance of the police in their respective districts. On arrival at Battagram, a contingent of the police saluted the IGP.
He also laid a floral wreath on the memorial of martyrs and offered Fateha for them. He also planted a sapling at the police lines in Battagram. The DPO Battagram Tariq Sohail Marwat, DPO Torghar Qamar Hayat Khan, DPO Lower Kohistan Zulfiqar Khan Jadoon and DPO Kolai Palas Syed Mukhtar Shah and others attended the meeting. Appreciating the performance of the officers, the IGP said that the best strategy should be adopted to maintain law and order and check crimes.
BATTAGRAM: A Battagram policeman was killed when a suspected man the police were trying to arrest opened fire in Thakot Bazaar here on Saturday.
Later, the police arrested the accused, identified as Abu Bakar, a resident of Kanai village, and registered a case against him.
Officials said Thakot checkpost in-charge ASI Abdul Sattar along with head constable Noor Ali Shah had gone to the Thakot Bazaar after receiving information that a suspected man with a pistol was there.
As the two police officials reached the spot and attempted to arrest the suspect, he opened fire on them. As a result, Noor Ali Shah was killed on the spot.
Christian community marks Christmas with enthusiasm

PESHAWAR: The Christian community marked Christmas with enthusiasm across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
A number of events were arranged in all the districts of the province to celebrate the occasion. The Christian community members offered special mass and prayed for the security and integrity of the country.
In Peshawar, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting & National Counter Terrorism Authority jointly marked the celebrations at the Catholic Church, Peshawar.
Scores of lawmakers, district administration officials and civil society members participated in the interfaith harmony event.
Among them were Members Provincial Assembly Wilson Wazir, Baseerat Khan, Shagufta Malik, former President of Women Chamber Commerce and Industry, Rukhsana Nadir, members of Lions Clubs International, Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Shah and people from other walks of life.
