DES MOINES, Iowa Kum & Go, the Iowa-based chain with 400 stores in 11 states, will enter the Utah market with a series of Salt Lake City area stores scheduled to open in 2022, the company announced.
“We are excited to bring Kum & Go’s unique brand of fun, flavor and convenience to Utah,” said Tanner Krause, CEO, Kum & Go. “I love the state, and the energy in a city like Salt Lake is hard to beat. I’m looking forward to bringing a new type of convenience along with some breakfast pizza to Utah.”

Kum & Go a Des Moines-based convenience store chain known for its early morning egg-topped slices is expanding into the Beehive State, the company announced Tuesday.
The first of several Utah stores will open in 2022 in Salt Lake County.
“Our intention is to build 30 stores in the region over the next five years,” said CEO Tanner Krause, the fourth generation to lead the family-owned business. “We’ve got a pretty ambitious growth plan.”

The first Kum & Go store was opened in 1959 by William A. Krause and Tony S. Gentle (the owner of Iowa’s Hampton Oil Corp.) The two men used the first letter of each of their last names to create the unique spelling of the company moniker.
For the first time in more than a decade, Kum & Go is expanding to a new state.
The Des Moines-based convenience store chain announced Tuesday it will build 30 gas stations in the Salt Lake City area over the next five years. The first stores will open in 2022.
Its expansion into Utah puts Kum & Go stores in 12 states, primarily in the Midwest, though it does have locations in western states Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. We are considering other states as well. This is our first state that we’ll be expanding to but that doesn t take other states off the table for consideration, said Niki Mason, senior vice president of store development. We re a high-growth company so we want to continue to build several new stores a year.
