Mandeville, Louisiana, sits on the northern edge of Lake Pontchartrain and is an easy day trip from New Orleans. If you take the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the trip from New Orleans to Mandeville is 35 miles long, with an impressive 24 miles of it along the causeway.
Mandeville has long been a destination for city dwellers seeking an escape to a rural setting. In the 1800s, the yellow fever epidemic meant that those who could afford to leave New Orleans for the fresh air and fresh spring water that the city lacked, the cooler nights, and the perceived healthier environment did so. Their summer getaway homes remain in Mandeville today in a walkable historic district with restaurants and shops.

“Hedy! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr”
Shows are back on at BB’s Stage Door Canteen at the National World War II Museum. From May 21-30, check out “Hedy! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr.” Born in Vienna, Lamarr was an actress once known as “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” while she shined on the silver screen from the 1930s to the 1950s.
There was much, much more to Lamarr than her beauty and acting talent, however. While married to an Austrian arms dealer, she retained knowledge about munitions and put that knowledge to use aiding the Allied war effort. She invented the Secret Communication System, which made torpedoes more accurate. This technology would later be used in cell phones, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth among other innovations.

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WVUE) - With more of us looking for things to do outdoors and socially distanced, bicycling is increasing in popularity. One of the best long-distance bikeways in Louisiana is located on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain in southern St. Tammany Parish.
The Tammany Trace runs through the forest, the backyards, and across the rivers and bayous of the parish. The 28-mile-long bikeway inherited its straight and level path from the old Illinois Central Gulf railroad line that was abandoned in the 1980s.
