Money was being freely distributed by political parties among voters since yesterday night, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan today alleged as polling proceeded across Tamil Nadu for the state s next Legislative Assembly. In his complaint to the returning officer in the Coimbatore South Constituency, where he is contesting from, the veteran actor said he had evidence of electoral malpractices being carried out in poll booths. We have certain problems in certain booths. But the main complaint is that a free-for-all distribution is happening all around since yesterday night. They are doing it very deviously and very quickly, so there isn t enough to call. Mr Haasan said, accompanied by his actress-daughter Shruti Haasan.

CHENNAI: Hotels and restaurants across the state were shut for the first time during the state assembly elections to allow the workers to cast their vote, according to Dr M Venkadasubbu, President Tamil Nadu Hotels and Restaurants Association.
Venkadasubbu told The New Indian Express that the hotels and restaurants were shut following the directive from labour commissioner. Usually hotels and restaurants remain open during the elections and workers cast their vote and return to work. This is the first time such an announcement has been made, he said.

A whopping Rs 428 crore in cash and precious metals have been seized from Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly polls in the state tomorrow, the Election Commission said.
The total cash seizure stands at Rs 225.5 crore while precious metals, including gold, accounts for Rs 176.11 crore. Liquor was also seized during the raids.
