Money was being freely distributed by political parties among voters since yesterday night, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan today alleged as polling proceeded across Tamil Nadu for the state s next Legislative Assembly. In his complaint to the returning officer in the Coimbatore South Constituency, where he is contesting from, the veteran actor said he had evidence of electoral malpractices being carried out in poll booths. We have certain problems in certain booths. But the main complaint is that a free-for-all distribution is happening all around since yesterday night. They are doing it very deviously and very quickly, so there isn t enough to call. Mr Haasan said, accompanied by his actress-daughter Shruti Haasan.

Top leaders of the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), including MK Stalin and his son Udayanidhi Stalin, have been bribing voters in five constituencies of Tamil Nadu and must be disqualified for this, the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (AIADMK) has said in a complaint to the poll panel today. The party has also sought the cancellation of elections in these five constituencies. Tamil Nadu is scheduled vote in a new government tomorrow.
Apart from the DMK chief and his son, the complaint also seeks the disqualification of EV Velu, KN Nehru, and Durai Murugan. The five constituencies where it wants the polls stopped are Kolathur, Katpadi, Chepauk-Triplicane, Tiruchirapalli, and Tiruvannamalai.

Minutes before the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for five states, including Tamil Nadu, yesterday, the state Assembly cleared 10.5% reservation for the Vanniyar community in educational institutions and in the appointment of posts in government services. What was not reported then is that the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (AIADMK) also sealed a poll deal with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a party with strong roots in the community that the legislators had just favoured.
