CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 448 Covid-19 cases and seven deaths on Friday, taking the tally to 8,47,385 and toll to 12,451 on Friday. The state also vaccinated 20,466 people against Covid.
Two more passengers who returned from the United Kingdom tested positive for the coronavirus. With this, the number the UK returnees testing positive for Covid-19 increased to 36. Three passengers from Karnataka who came by road also tested positive for Covid.
Chennai reported 136 cases, and three deaths. After 139 people were discharged, the city had 1,623 active cases. Chennai s neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 46, 16 and 31 cases respectively.
Meanwhile, Kallakurichi and Perambalur reported zero new cases and 22 districts reported less than 10 new cases on the day.

Sasikala discharged from Bengaluru hospital
Expelled AIADMK leader V K Sasikala was discharged from a hospital here on Sunday after recovering from COVID-19, days after she was set free by the prison officials on completion of her jail term in a corruption case, authorities said.
The family has decided to take Sasikala, a close aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, to Chennai, sources close to her said, adding the hospital has advised her to be under self-quarantine for some time.
Sasikala was admitted to the Victoria Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 recently while under judicial custody.
Schools in Tamil Nadu will reopen next week for students from Class 10 and 12 with COVID-19 safety norms, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami said today. Mr Palaniswami said that majority of parents want schools to repoen so that students can prepare for the annual exams.

Chennai: In a bizarre claim, Tamil Nadu minister Rajendra Balaji on Tuesday claimed that drinking rasam daily helps in killing the coronavirus. “Make rasam and sambhar a part of your regular diet. Drink half or a full glass of rasam.Corona will run away or die. I also drink rasam every day. Wherever I go, I drink rasam,” Balaji said.
Praising his government for taking effective measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, the Tamil Nadu minister said that the eating habits of the people of Tamil Nadu help in combating COVID-19.
