Chennai shuts parks, beaches amid spike in COVID-19 cases
In view of the rising Covid cases, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced the closure of the city s beaches and parks for the public from Tuesday. Malls, commercial establishments, tea shops, restaurants, vegetable markets, retail shops and provisional shops will remain open till 9 pm and only 50 per cent of customers will be allowed at a time, the civic body said in a statement.
Besides, the GCC will also ensure that people wear face masks and maintain social distancing.
Several restaurants found overcrowded were also shut in the city.

Sasikala discharged from Bengaluru hospital
Expelled AIADMK leader V K Sasikala was discharged from a hospital here on Sunday after recovering from COVID-19, days after she was set free by the prison officials on completion of her jail term in a corruption case, authorities said.
The family has decided to take Sasikala, a close aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, to Chennai, sources close to her said, adding the hospital has advised her to be under self-quarantine for some time.
Sasikala was admitted to the Victoria Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 recently while under judicial custody.
