While second home purchases rose 46 percent and comprised 6 percent of all mortgages from January to March of this year, a number of towns and cities have experienced a significant uptick in the number of people looking to buy second homes. By examining financed properties and excluding all-cash offers, this list looks away from affluent hotspots like Malibu and Greenwich and instead showcases smaller cities with a burgeoning vacation home market.
Pioneer cabin to be restored this summer at Becker County Fairgrounds

The pioneer log cabin at the Becker County Fairgrounds will get some much-needed love this summer: The leaking cedar roof will be reshingled, the gaps between logs will be rechinked, the rickety loft will be stabilized, and the window areas restored, among other improvements.
SUNFIELD TWP. – Police have released the name of the fisherman who fell through the ice on an Eaton County lake and died.
Jason Betts, 41, of South Boardman, was fishing on Tamarack Lake in Sunfield Township Monday afternoon when he fell through the ice, according to the Eaton County Sheriff s Office.
South Boardman is in northern Michigan, near Traverse City.
Rescuers were called to the lake at about 1:40 p.m. Monday after another person coming out to fish reported seeing Betts go through the ice, according to the sheriff s office. They were unable to rescue Betts because of poor ice conditions.
