Taiwan Star Telecom subscribers should receive at least a 5 percent discount on their next phone bill if they experienced a service drop on Tuesday, National Communications Commission (NCC) Chairman Chen Yaw-shyang (陳耀祥) said yesterday.
Chen was addressing the legislature’s Transportation Committee.
Lawmakers across party lines asked Chen how the commission could ensure that Taiwan Star would compensate its subscribers after they lost access to telecom services for four hours on Tuesday afternoon due to a power outage in the company’s telecommunications room in Taipei’s Neihu District (內湖).
The commission had received 144 complaints from Taiwan Star subscribers as of Wednesday, Chen said,
Taiwan Star, Acer ITS team up on 5G smart transportation services

Taipei, Jan. 26 (CNA) Taiwan Star Telecom Co. said Tuesday it has established a partnership with Acer ITS Inc. to develop smart transportation services, using 5G technology.
The partnership with Acer ITS will start with the development of a smart ticketing system for rehabilitation buses and wheelchair accessible taxis, the telecom company said.
Taiwan Star said it brings to the table its broad 4G/5G network in Taiwan, big data development and wide range of customer services, while Acer ITS has experience in smart ticketing services, identification applications and diverse payment solutions.
